We expect the sale to occur two devices - one with 8 GB memory and resistive touchscreen and the other with 16 GB memory and a capacitive display. According to EuroDroid, the first tablet will cost $ 200, while the second - $ 270. More expensive models will have two cameras - one on the front for video calls, which means you can maintain and operate 3G networks, although at that price is unlikely. So far, the company did not report what version of Android will work on the tablets.

D. It is certainly faster than the Galaxy Tab (i had the at&t version). it is very responsive to touch and switching tasks. there is really zero lag here.

2) Quadrant is around 1900+/- which is not bad out of the box.

3) seems like it is being capped at 60fps (improvement from old streak which was capped at 30fps)

4) The browser is absolutely smooth and fast, unlike the Galaxy Tab's browser which is laggy and was the Tab's main fault (even after the recent leaked firmwares from Samsung where they fixed some of the browser issues). Flash plays very smoothly on this device.

5) It plays XVID out of the box (i tested a normal xvid file, not any HD content and it plays it with the built in player)

6) The speakers are one of the best i have heard. they sound much better than the galaxy Tab.

7) I bought the dock for it from the T-Mobile store. it enables full screen mirroring via HDMI and it does it very well. The Galaxy Tab HDMI out is very disappointing as its HDMI out is extremely blurry and poor.

8) I can make phone calls with it using a Google Voice account + Spidroid from the market. i can receive and make calls using the wired headset no problem and it works well over 3g/4g and Wifi (I'll write a guide later on how to do it).

9) Build quality is more than satisfactory, i just wish i could remove the DELL logo from the back

10) The 5Mpx camera is fine, though not amazing.

11) The tablet is Quad Band WCDMA (which is extremely rare). once we can unlock it i am moving this to at&t

12) Unlike what other people say, it has 512MB RAM with 364MB user accessible (which is NORMAL).

13) Very good GPS. i get instant locks and it is super stable.

14) Overall it is very stable for me with 95 apps installed.

The bad and not so bad:

1) The screen resolution is only 800x480 but its NOT THAT BAD. I agree that higher resolution would look better though.

2) Viewing angle is not that great, but again this is a 7'' tablet. you would normally be looking straight at it (unlike a 10'' tablet).

3) The colors are not very deep, but its not that bad really.

4) Battery life is disappointing BUT i have isolated the cause. It is the 3G radio that is killing it. If you put the tab into airplane mode and only use wifi you will see great improvement. Let's hope Dell will release a new radio which is more battery friendly. Initially i thought it was the screen, but it seems to be the radio.

5) Some apps and games wont load properly or crash. This is due to Tegra as these games and apps needs to be updated to use arm v7 (i.e. gameloft games, splashtop remote, super stunt car). 90% of my apps work fine though.

6) T-Mobile absolutely refuses to unlock it for me. They say they have an exclusive deal with Dell on the tablet and that's why they are not offering an unlock code. Shame because it is Quad Band WCDMA!!!

7) Camera flash is a bit of a joke. it is very weak.

Overall i am happy with the Tablet and i enjoy it more than i enjoyed the Galaxy Tab mainly because of the excellent browser, system speed and full HDMI out which i use often.

Author - clubtech

D. Except for the disappointing choice of OS version, the tablet is otherwise pretty decent for its $200 price, with 4GB of internal memory and microSD slot, as well as an USB port. The navigation buttons are old school physical, but some might even prefer them before capacitive, while the tablet itself weighs just 1.1 pounds.

The biggest mistery is the chipset, which AOC lists as made from the Chinese chipmaker Rockchip. We know Rockchip outed an Android-tailored CPU, capable of HD video, so we guess that's what the AOC Breeze tablet is rocking, and the promised battery life is six hours of video playback. This year, it seems it will make a serious effort to turn the market for mobile devices based on Android, as before at CES 2011 and presented a tablet phone platform from Google. Both devices have two cameras and specially designed interface will provide an opportunity to contact and other company products. The company has yet to provide a smartphone that could compete with the iPhone and BlackBerry, but has high hopes that the upcoming Optimus 2X will be its first.

The Optimus 2X, which could be reaching Korean and European consumers as early as January, is powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1 gigahertz (GHz), which LG says is the first configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer. LG insists that the dual-core processor will deliver higher performance and play video and games smoother than devices powered with single-core chips. The phone will be released with Google Android 2.2, known as ``Froyo,’’ and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3, or ``Gingerbread.’’

LG will also unveil its first tablet computer, which will be powered by ``Honeycomb,’’ a version of the Android mobile operating system designed for tablets and ``netbooks,’’ or mini laptops, in Las Vegas, according to industry sources. The tablet will feature an 8.9-inch touch screen, bigger than Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab but smaller than Apple’s 10-inch iPad.

Samsung was one of the few companies other than Apple to generate noise in the tablet market this year, after selling more than 1.2 million of its Galaxy Tab devices. Samsung is expected to reveal the newer version of its Galaxy Tab at the CES, as it looks to exploit a global tablet market that will reach 50 million units in 2011, from 15 million this year, according to the estimations by technology research firm Gartner.

Other companies looking to unveil their tablets at CES include Microsoft, which is planning a slew of Windows-based devices built by manufacturing partners like Samsung and Dell, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Motorola.

Samsung currently has one of the world’s best selling Android phones in the Galaxy S and is likely to reveal the updated version of the phone in Las Vegas.

D. These names are Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC in. .. Nokia. Edition continues that because computer manufacturers are under pressure because they can not complete their tablets, while sales of netbooks it diminished at the expense of tablets. The strategy of Google will lead to that computer companies will put their tablets later than those of mobile manufacturers, which could lead to new rearrangement of forces in this new market segment. The video is fun and make jokes as well as iPad - a product called big iPhone, as well as to Samsung Galaxy Tab, which he defined as using Android for phones. According to the company they along with other examples from history are just steps in the evolution of tablets, the culmination of which is the product of Motorola. Boldly claim that the Americans hope soon to provide supporting evidence. Besides various hints about the characteristics of the device in the video, Motorola makes another at the end - they definitely shows that the tablet will use Android Honeycomb.

D. But which tablet device is right for you?

Although they may look similar at first glance – large-screened, flat, enticingly shiny – there’s actually a huge range of different tablet devices available on the market at the moment, with a range of functions. Here’s a quick guide to help you work out what you need and how to get it.

Apple iPad

We’ll start with the big one – you’ve all heard of it. With a screen of 9.7 inches, the iPad is the biggest tablet around and makes a great device for coffee tables and train journeys. Thousands of handy apps make it easy to tailor the iPad to your needs, and it’s perfect for surfing the net, watching movies and video clips and playing games.

Downsides are that the iPad has no camera component – though it’s expected that one will be included in the next version – and no phone component, so you can’t use it for phone or video calls. It’s also got no support for Adobe Flash, which can be exasperating if using Flash-based sites. And, whilst it’s got a huge range of books available for download, the screen is a little bright and the device a little heavy for reading for any length of time.

Amazon Kindle

For bookworms, then, the Kindle makes a far better choice for a reading session. This dedicated e-reader is currently the number one best-seller on Amazon, and is racking up thousands of orders in time for Christmas. Unlike the iPad, the Kindle uses innovative e-ink to make reading it exactly like reading from a book, ensuring that you don’t hurt your eyes. At 6”, it’s small enough and weighs little enough (less than a paperback) to hold comfortably for long periods. And with the 3G version now available, you can download books wherever you are.

Downsides are that this e-reader is just that – an e-reader. Don’t expect any bells or whistles from this one-trick pony, but this is the perfect gift for literary types and costs a lot less than a full tablet device.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Biggest competitor to the iPad so far (watch this space)! The Galaxy Tab is smaller than the iPad, at just 7 inches, but it’s about half the weight – meaning you won’t have to contend with arm strain after a lengthy session. It runs Google’s Android OS, which means that it also supports Adobe Flash, and like the iPad it has a variety of useful apps available (although admittedly not as many as in the iStore), including a Barnes & Noble Nook reader app.
Downsides are that the Samsung Galaxy Tab, like the iPad, can’t place phone calls – but unlike the iPad, it does come with front and back videos included, making web-based video calls a viable alternative.

D. This is due to the fact that Galaxy Tab hosts 7-inch screen as opposed to nearly 10 inches of the iPad. Although not endorse shrinking screens can settle here, because thanks to this device is more compact. The tablet feels solid when held in hand because of its considerable weight. Rear and side bars are made of gray colored plastic, which at one point almost mislead us, it is aluminum. Keeping Samsung Galaxy Tab in one hand while reading for example, will quickly tire your wrist and will want to grab it with both hands or place it on any surface or stand. We're not sure whether the tablet will be sold with a one, however.

The 7-inch screen uses LCD TFT technology, not the vaunted Super AMOLED of Samsung. Overall, very like the picture quality - viewing angles are good, colors are true and the resolution is high enough - 600x1024 pixels. The screen has a natural multi-touch and capacitive technology. Another good feature is that it is visible in sunlight, though not in all his glory. Watching 7-inch screen will find that is big enough for a tablet, though often you have to use it in landscape mode for viewing Web pages, for example.

D. The company showed a few months ago 7 tablet that looks like a Kindle for hardware QWERTY keyboard, and promised to reveal more details later. The only issue i have right now is a lack of information, but I don't fault CS for that.

Should you buy this?

It's up to you, but be aware of what you are getting into. Here's a quick breakdown of what you will / won't get:

- You are basically paying for hardware that is not optimized for Android. It's fast, but it could be a lot faster and we're hoping that future updates will take advantage of that. The hardware is bleeding edge, right now.
- The LCD screen is basically a netbook screen. With that in mind certain angles are really bad. It's looks pretty good spot-on, just like a netbook.
- HDMI out might work, but you need a dock which is not available yet.
- 720p/1080p might work, but needs to be encoded a certain way.
- Standard video seems fine, in particular Xvid AVI's.
- There are issues with games, right now. Some work, some don't. Simple as that.
- There's no official app store, yet. This might change by Black Friday.
- Angry Birds works, but you need to mod it and the install is finicky (might be fixed with a new TnT stock update).
- There's no official Flash support, yet. That may change in the future and there are ways to get an unoficial patch (see below).
- To make the device usable, you need to mod it and will need to be familiar on how to sideload apps. This is my opinion, of course.

The mods are not supported by Viewsonic, so keep that mind!

---------------------------------------------------------------
General information on the different unofficial ROMS available

1- Vanilla restore image. This is an attempt by our community to have a restore image in case your device is having issues or you need to wipe any mods off before returning it. It will wipe the system data, but not the user data. For the latter, you'd want to do a factory reset under Settings -- Firmware.

2- TnT Lite. This is a streamlined version of the stock firmware. It leaves the status bar and settings area intact, for example - but removes the main TnT homescreen and replaces it with a stock launcher. It also has the same bugs as stock.

3- zPad Clean. This is a port of the firmware on the zPad - this device is virtually identical to the GTab so its firmware works well on it. It also seems to be getting frequent updates although it is in China and difficult for us to get right now. Rothnic has spearheaded this effort.

4- CyanogenMod. This is an early beta so keep that in mind - I would recommend this only for technical users. It is an attempt to port cm to the GTab, and it currently at beta 3, as of this writing. Bekit has spearheaded this effort.

D. According to DigiTimes site in December will be ready the first engineering samples of tablets with a platform that will work with the new version of the platform, and the official premiere of the devices is expected in time at CES 2011 in January. There will be a version of Samsung Galaxy Tab with latest software. According to the information companies, who will present the first tablets with Android Gingerbread, are Acer, ASUS and MSI. The Android side of things is 1.6 which might turn away tech savvy early adopters, but the rest of the tablet sounds good on paper. The Viewpad 100 comes with a 10″ capacitive LED touchscreen (1024×600), an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, 16GB SSD, and 1GB DDR3 RAM. There are also two USB ports, Bluetooth, WiFi, A-GPS, an accelerometer, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. Like us, you’re probably wondering why two operating systems for the tablet. Here’s the ViewSonic rationale.

“We want to supply users with a tablet computer that incorporates both Android and Windows as we believe in providing an open approach to mobile technology to users who may not wish to be tied to a specific operating system. The ViewPad 100 is aimed at those who want the speed and portability of Android without losing the advantages of having a Windows-based system. We recognise many users may be transitioning from a netbook but will possibly struggle with the learning curve of a new OS, even for simple tasks as uploading photos or using a VPN. Eventually they may choose to favour one over the other, but they will always have the choice.”

Look for the ViewPad 100 to arrive in October via authorized resellers in October at a MSRP of ?549 ($845 US). Including two juicy tidbits that Android lovers will be interested in.
First off it looks like a “World Phone” version of the Droid 2 for more business and travel minded customers could start appearing anytime now. Adding Global roaming capability to the Droid lineup is a critical step in gaining acceptance from the business crowd, while adding black and white color choices appeals to those looking for a color choice. Second you will see the “MOT DROID A957″ believed by most to be the Droid Pro. The Droid Pro is also a world phone, This device is also rumored to launch in November sporting a 1.3GHz processor and a 4inch touchscreen.
The second item of interest from the inventory shots are the model number “MZ600″. Could this be the much rumored Motorola tablet? At this point its anyones guess. It could be a large phone device ala the Dell Streak but that remains to be seen. For now all we can do it watch and listen, Hopefully Motorola and Verizon come clean about these new devices soon. However based on their collective track records its doubtful we will hear much official up until just before these devices launch.

D. In many ways, Motorola's rumored consumer-based Android tablet will feature some enhancements over Apple's first generation mobile tablet that's based on the company's mobile iOS platform.

Notably, Android will give Motorola more flexibility. As the Motorola tablet is slated to launch with Gingerbread, which is Android 3.0. The minimum that the tablet will ship with would be Android 2.2, which will support Adobe Flash 10.1, giving the tablet a desktop-class browsing experience and making it compatible with more websites than the standard, Flash-less Webkit Safari on the iPad.

To support Flash and the multimedia capabilities of the tablet, Motorola is speculated to be using the NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU, possibly dual camera (a front camera for webcam and video calls is anticipated), and many expect the device to launch at a sub-$400 price tag--the base iPad model retails for $500 sans 3G as a WiFi-only iteration.

Whether the tablet will get Verizon Wireless's Droid branding is uncertain at this time, but it looks like with the Adobe partnership, larger screen sizes, Flash compatibility, and long battery life may give tablets an extra push beyond what Apple is already doing. Motorola Droid apps

D. More specifically, it is “delayed and won’t ship before the end of the year as planned.”

The news is not terribly surprising considering the clues we’ve been given so far. Although Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer showed off an HP tablet prototype running Windows 7 earlier this year, a more recent tablet-related announcement from Ballmer didn’t include HP in the list of hardware partners. That omission may have tacitly confirmed earlier rumors that the HP Slate project had been shelved.

Even more saliently, HP acquired Palm at the end of April. Unsurprisingly, the company confirmed it has tablets based on webOS in the works. Given all those recent developments, it would make sense for HP to consolidate its once wider-reaching tablet OS strategy and focus on building a unique tablet experience leveraging the unique strengths of webOS.

HTC HD2 apps

D. The best place to find some more info about all Android phones.

D. But first you need to know how to build the operating system so that it will work with your machine.
A source sent me a set of detailed instructions for building Android for an Asus Eee PC 701 today. The instructions are written for Ubuntu Linux, so you’ll need three things (or two if your Eee PC is currently running Ubuntu):

A machine running Ubuntu

An Eee PC 701

A USB flash drive (the instructions don’t say how large it needs to be, but I’d think a 1GB stick would do)

There are two things to keep in mind. First, installing Android will erase any files on your netbook and remove your current operating system. And second, these instructions are only for installing Android on the the Eee PC 701. They will not work with newer Eee PC models like the Eee PC 901 or 1000H. And I wouldn’t expect them to work with other Intel Atom-based netbooks like the MSI Wind U100 or Lenovo IdeaPad S10.

That said, my anonymous tipster is looking for people with kernel hacking experience who might be able to help get Android working on other netbook models. If you think you might be able to help, leave a comment on this post and I’ll do my best to get you in touch.

Read how-to

D. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and the 7 inch tablet has a fairly sluggish 600MHz processor, just 2GB of storage space, and a 1600mAh battery. While there’s only so much you can do about the processor and display, one hacker figured he wasn’t stuck with the other hardware, and after opening up the case of his Eken M001 tablet, he tweaked the heck out of it.

The modded tablet now includes a front-facing camera, 8GB of flash storage, a USB hub, 2 external USB ports, and a 5200mAh battery, among other things. With the new battery, he says he’s getting between 7 and 12 hours of run time from the tablet. In order to do that, he redesigned the back panel of the tablet, making it much, much thicker.

When all is said and done, it might make more sense just to spend the extra cash on a pricier Android tablet such as the Archos 7 or Dell Streak. But if you’re a DIY-er looking for a project, it’s nice to know that the Eken M001 is quite hackable.

D. A large high-res screen? The ability to play 3D games and HD video? A rich ecosystem of apps, perhaps? What about an SD card slot or USB support? The new Viliv X10 Tablet with Android promises all of that and more. We had a chance to spend a few moments with this gorgeous device at Computex 2010 and we came away impressed.

The first thing that strikes you about the X10 is its bright 10-inch, 1366×768 capacitive touch screen. That’s the highest resolution we’ve seen in a 10-inch tablet and it’s a huge benefit over the 1024 x 768 iPad. After all, 1366 x 768 is 16:9 aspect ratio, which means you have more than 720p (1280 x 720) you can use to play games and watch movies.
Speaking of playing games, the ARM-based processor in the demo system we saw was powerful enough to provide an immersive 3D gaming experience at full screen. Watch the video below to see the Viliv X10 playing a racing game that uses the tablet’s built-in accelerometer as a controller. You may not see it in the video, but we were impressed with the shadows and fine details that were visible in the game. Clearly, this tablet has graphics muscle.

The Viliv X10 is powered by a 1-GHz Samsung C110 processor based on the Cortex A-8 CPU. It has 16 or 32GB of internal flash memory and is equipped with an SD card reader, USB port, HDMI out, and a back-facing webcam. In addition to Wi-Fi, it should also be available with built-in 3G or WiMax. The battery is said to provide up to 10 hours of endurance.

The X10 we saw as running Android 2.1, but Viliv tells us that before this tablet is finished, it will be running Android 2.2. That can only mean one thing: Flash support. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, though Viliv reps told us the device is coming along nicely and indeed the model we saw looked good enough to sell right now.

There’s also a Windows 7 version of the Viliv X10. Though Viliv was not showing the Windows 7 version of the X10 in their suite, we spied a demo unit working under glass at Microsoft’s booth and took a few pictures. The chassis looks exactly the same as the Android version, though you’ll notice the familiar trappings of Windows 7 on the screen.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Viliv X10 and updating you as we learn more. If the final version lives up to the potential we saw demonstrated here at Computex, this could be an incredible iPad alternative.

D. There are a number of other devices out there in various stages from “barely announced” to “working prototype”.

1. HP Slate

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer showed off this HP tablet prototype very briefly at CES this year. It wasn’t the Apple iPad () thunder-stealing moment predicted by the media, but it is one of many indications that the tablet form-factor is about to become practically ubiquitous.

2. Dell Streak

During its CES 2010 keynote, Dell talked about working on multiple “upcoming slates,” including one prototype it showed off, which is currently called the Streak. This particular model is only 5-inches, though, which puts it less in the direct path of the iPad and makes it more akin to the existing line of mobile internet devices (MIDs) like the Archos series of Internet () tablets. Not much else is known yet about the Streak, or what other kinds of tablets Dell might be cooking up, but Engadget did snag some hands-on photos of the device.

3. Asus Eee Tablet

Asus is the company responsible for kicking off the entire netbook craze. They were also showing off a prototype of a 9-inch tablet at CES this year. The device has four control buttons reminiscent of the favored layout for an Android-powered phone, leading to the logical speculation that the Asus tablet might well run Google’s () mobile operating system.

4. Compal Tablet

This working prototype was shown off at CES 2010. Made by Compal, the 7-inch Android 2.0 tablet runs on the new, high-powered next-generation Tegra 2 processor NVIDIA announced at CES. With this chip, a device can support 1080p video playback, yet retain startlingly good battery life. NVIDIA says it already has several partners lined up to make Tegra 2-based tablets, so expect more of this type of device in the near near future.

5. Notion Ink Adam

Another tablet running Android and powered by the Tegra 2 chip is the Adam, a 10-inch tablet from Indian startup Notion Ink. It uses a screen technology from Pixel Qi that combines the best of a full color multi-touch LCD display with a low-power reflective mode that’s readable in direct sunlight.

Notion Ink says the Adam should come to market in the second quarter of this year, with a target price somewhere between $300 and $800. Slashgear got a lengthy video demo (embedded below) and oodles of pics of the device.

6. MSI

Wait for it: It’s another tablet prototype running Android and powered by the Tegra 2, this time from MSI. Engadget found it “a bit thicker and heavier than we’d like,” but on the plus side its 10-inch screen is “plenty responsive.”

7. Still, it is only a prototype, so the Wi-Fi and 3G-enabled tablet device could still be a contender in the about-to-be-crowded tablet space.

8. ICD Vega

Seattle-based startup Innovative Converged Devices announced its Vega tablet back in November 2009, and now the device is officially headed to T-Mobile UK sometime before the end of 2010. Yet another tablet based on Android, the Vega will have a large amount of screen real-estate at 15.6-inches.

9. Google and HTC

[Mockup image courtesy of Gizmodo]

This one is sadly of the purely rumor variety, but it’s worth mentioning for its potentially game-changing effects. Like it did with the Nexus One, if Google were to take a direct hand in developing a tablet computing device with a trusted partner, it could be a serious contender in the newly emerging tablet wars.

The cited report says the Google Tablet has already been in development for the past 19 months. HTC is a plausible logical choice for the trusted partner as well, given its existing relationship with Google and the Android operating system. Still, with nothing yet official on the books, the Google Tablet is the most speculative entrant on this list for now.

D. Weighing barely a pound, the Cisco Cius features both 3G and WiFi connection and allows for an optional “HD audio station equipped with a telephone handset speakerphone, HD DisplayPort and USB ports”. If Cisco has their say, this would be the new way to do WebEx meetings and enterprise software. Based on the Android operating system, Cisco Cius is an open platform for communication and collaboration whose form factor and applications are designed to more securely connect employees on-the-go with the right people in real-time, and to provide those workers with the ability to access and share the content they need from any place on the network.

Original source

D.
